Investigator-Immigration Resources - Public Defender's Office

Lake County

Lake County, Illinois is a financially stable, professionally managed, AAA rated County located in northeastern Illinois, with Lake Michigan to the east, Wisconsin to the north and the City of Chicago to the south. We are currently seeking candidates for the following position:

Investigator-Immigration Resources - Public Defender's Office
Salary: $24.16-Hourly

Provides consultation and technical assistance to defense counsel regarding the immigration consequences of criminal charges, plea offers, and prior convictions. Performs work of moderate difficulty to ensure compliance with the US Supreme Court's mandate in Padilla v. Kentucky that criminal defense attorneys advise their clients of immigration consequences of potential criminal disposition.

Work focuses on cases involving non-citizens who may face immigration consequences as a result of criminal charges, including the analysis of relevant statutes and the preparation of reports regarding findings. The work involves the application of specialized knowledge and the ability to evaluate immigration consequences of criminal charges.

Conducts occasional trainings for Public Defender attorneys on immigration concerns, develops criminal and immigration resources to support Public Defender attorneys' future work, and disseminates information about evolving immigration law relevant to Public Defender non-citizen clients. Interviews non-citizen clients and family to obtain information about immigration status histories.

Although the work is performed in accordance with established rules and procedures, the employee must exercise considerable independent judgment. Supervision is received through observation of performance and review of written reports.

Prior work experience in immigration rights, human rights, criminal justice, or in a legal services setting. Bachelor's Degree from an accredited College or University. The ability to read, write and speak Spanish is required, fluency in Spanish language required. Working knowledge of computers and office technology. Possession of a valid Driver's License, supplemented by a satisfactory driving record.

Chicago Teacher Residency

Academy for Urban School Leadership

Do you want to teach and transform the lives of children in Chicago's high-poverty schools? AUSL seeks talented, committed individuals who are passionate about urban education for the Chicago Teacher Residency, a post-graduate program in education. This intensive 12-month, full-time, paid training program combines teacher preparation, certification, and a Master's degree to give Residents the tools they need to dramatically improve student achievement in Chicago's high-poverty, chronically failing schools.

After the training year, graduates commit to teach in Chicago Public Schools (CPS) for at least four years.

As an AUSL Chicago Teacher Residency resident, you will receive:

  • A full school year of intensive urban teacher training: Work four days a week in the classroom of an experienced Mentor teacher, at an AUSL teacher training CPS school. Experience intensive and individualized coaching, guidance and opportunities for practice that will shape you into a confident, capable, and reflective teacher ready for the special challenges of your own classroom in a CPS school. Residencies for all grade levels (K-12) and content areas (Math, Science, Special Education, etc.) are available.
  • A Master's degree and Illinois teaching certification: Earn a Master of Arts in Teaching from National Louis University and your full Illinois Initial teaching certification in just one year. If you are already certified to teach, we offer a Master of Education in Urban Education.
  • An affordable route to teaching: Receive financial support for your training year: a $30,000 salary plus a $2,775 AmeriCorps Education Award voucher (pending eligibility) or a $40,000 salary for Mathematics residents (no AmeriCorps award), discounted tuition from National Louis University, and financial aid including loan forgiveness.
  • Post-training job placement opportunity: After the training year, graduates commit to teach in an AUSL-managed Chicago Public School for at least four years. As a first year CPS Master's degree teacher, earn over $50,000 plus benefits.

Purpose:
Efficiently provide excellent customer service support to external and internal customers. Answer and respond to all phone calls on a timely manner. Accurately process all customer orders.

Reports To: Customer Service Manager

  • Answer and respond to customer phone calls promptly and accurately
  • Enter customer orders into system
  • Assist with paperwork - process, organize and file

  • Coordinate product resets
  • Obtain feedback from accounts on effectiveness of consumer programming and report trends to management

  • Coordinate timing of merchandising activities with salesperson and key account manager
  • Continual development of industry, channel and brand knowledge

Sales Associate

Purpose:
To meet or exceed pre-determined service expectations while selling product, merchandising and fulfilling route management objectives in order to drive volume and profit growth in accounts.

Required Duties:
  • Plan and execute a daily schedule of sales call on a pre-determined route (route schedule)
  • Effectively plan on a daily, weekly, or monthly/quarterly basis with quota and distribution objectives
  • Communicate through voicemail, email and proper follow through on issues deemed important to management, our customers and suppliers
  • Be present and punctual for mandatory sales meetings and brand kick-offs
  • Report on issues related to the competitive market and offer constructive suggestions
  • Work with suppliers representatives and managers in the field to promote sales
  • Meet with each account/store manager on a regular basis (weekly)
  • Service and improve the marketability of our products through shelf management, display position and frequency, concept selling and price point management
