Director of Marketing and PR
Chicago Opera Theater
Job Summary:
The Director of Marketing and Public Relations is responsible for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of all marketing, public relations, and communication activities. This exempt position is a member of the company's senior management team, and reports to the General Director. S/he will work closely with the General Director, General Manager and Director of Development, in the development of strategic planning for the company. Direct reports include Ticket Services Manager.
Accountability:
- Maximizing earned income revenues by crafting and executing strategic and comprehensive annual marketing and public relations campaigns.
- Manage major growth in audience size among subscribers and single ticket holders.
- Manage the effective growth and evolution of the COT brand both locally and nationally
- Provide clear, accurate reports, both verbally and written, to board and staff.
Responsibilities include:
Marketing:
- Coordination of design, copy, and distribution of all marketing material which integrates COT's overall brand platform and ensures consistent use of brand messages and architecture.
- Creation and implementation of direct mail, e-marketing, and telemarketing campaigns.
- Supervision of the Box Office and all its activities, including customer service.
- Maintain departmental revenue and expense budgets, cash flow forecasts, and calendar of activities.
- Assume all editorial responsibilities, in collaboration with the General Director, of COT's website.
- Identify, develop, and manage all of COT's Preferred Partners.
- Assist with Development department in securing corporate sponsorship opportunities.
- Participate in the planning and execution of community engagement and audience development events.
Public Relations:
- Supervision of activities related to all press relations including creation and distribution of press releases and materials.
- Cultivate productive relationships with members of local, regional, and national media with an emphasis on those which cover the arts and opera.
- Secure reviewing press from local, regional, and national sources as well as previewing and listings in all forms of media.
- Coordinate all promotional events and activities, including National Opera Week, press conferences, and audience development.
- Participate in the planning and execution of community engagement events.
- Direct the creation, editorial content, and gathering of materials, in collaboration with the General Director and other departments, for all Program Books; manage company-wide proofing process.
- Coordinate all company photography, both production and social.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proven record of success in creation and implementation of both large- and small-scale revenue-generating campaigns
- Expertise in the application of fundamental marketing/public relations theories and practices for performing arts organizations.
- Demonstrated strength in team leadership and resource management
- Strong computer competence; thorough knowledge of Tessitura software preferred
- Outstanding organizational, copywriting, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven, hands-on experience in media relations, media planning and buying, direct and email initiatives, and digital marketing.
- Background or interest in the arts and music in particular is preferred.

S/he will have a passion for and commitment to theater and the classical arts, and should embrace an "out-of-the-box", non-traditional approach to theater and opera production.
Qualifications:
- BA required, 5+ years Marketing experience
Special Requirements:
- Ability to work limited nights and weekends during productions and special events. Must be able to work during fundraising events, and/or other events as requested by General Director.
- Ability to help with various COT set-ups, may be expected to lift or move boxes weighing up to 25 pounds.

Elementary Teaching Positions
Academy for Urban School Leadership
The Academy for Urban School Leadership (AUSL), a not-for-profit school management organization, is responsible for the operation of 20 elementary and 5 secondary Chicago Public Schools (CPS) performance schools. As a Performance School, all teachers at the AUSL Turnaround Schools are employees of CPS. The terms of the Board of Education/Chicago Teachers Union collective bargaining agreement shall apply unless waived in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement or in accordance with State law.
We are seeking full-time teachers who are highly qualified to teach/work in the following areas:
- K-5
- Special Education (intermediate, middle school and secondary)
- Mathematics (middle school and secondary)
- Language Arts (middle school)
- Social Science (middle school)
- Bilingual K-8
- Art
- Music
- Counselor
- Teacher Aide
The teacher hours include the regular school day - start and end times vary by school site. In some AUSL schools, some staff may be asked to teach after-school programs one hour on each of three days per week and attend after-school staff professional development for teachers one day per week. Compensation for after-school hours will be paid according to the CTU collective bargaining agreement. AUSL Turnaround elementary schools operate on the CPS Track E calendar, except in the first year of the AUSL turnaround.

Individual Giving Manager
Sargent Shriver National Center on Poverty Law
Reports to: Vice President of External Affairs
Location: Chicago, IL
Responsibilities: The Individual Giving Manager will help the Shriver Center achieve its annual budget goals for individual donations and major gifts by working collaboratively with the President and External Affairs Vice President to develop individual and major donor giving strategies, researching, cultivating, and soliciting gifts from individual donors and prospects throughout the US, and providing staff support to the President, Vice President and volunteers.
Responsibilities include:
- Participate in all aspects of the giving cycle: research and identify prospects; cultivate relationships through personal communication, mailings and visits; solicit, acknowledge and close gifts; and steward relationships.
- Manage a portfolio of major donor prospects and develop and implement individual cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies for each prospect in portfolio.
- Provide support to the President, Board, Vice President of External Affairs, staff and volunteers as needed to cultivate, solicit and steward prospects.
- Work with the Vice President and Media and PR Manager to develop a theme for annual fund appeal and participate in the creation of donor cultivation and solicitation communications.
- Assist in planning and executing cultivation and stewardship events.
- Work with the President and VP of External Affairs to develop strategies and objectives for individual, major and planned gift prospects.
- Participate in monthly Prospect Management meetings with External Affairs staff and the President.
- Track prospects and donor activities in relationship management database and provide support to VP of External Affairs in tracking progress against goals.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of five years of demonstrated success in individual and/or major gift fundraising with a proven track record of securing large gifts and increasing contributions
- Proven ability to plan strategically and build long-term relationships with donors
- Experience using individual and major donor prospect research to identify and solicit new donors
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Proven ability to manage numerous projects and meet multiple pressing deadlines simultaneously while being independently motivated
- Solid computer skills and experience managing donor and prospect information in donor databases; Raiser's Edge experience preferred
- Willingness to travel as needed within the United States
