Educational Leadership Summit
Please join us to an open forum to discuss specific social, cultural, economic, political and ongoing educational administration issues from the NEIU-LEAD graduates' perspective. El Valor and NLU Masters in Business Administration (MBA) Cohort #7 - Little Village
El Valor and NLU are happy to report the beginning of another Masters in Business Administration (MBA) cohort in LITTLE VILLAGE!

This is part of El Valor's Leadership Through Education program which has as one of its goals to increase the number of qualified, culturally and linguistically skilled personnel in positions of leadership, especially individuals who can identify with the Latino community and other underserved communities. This program is offered in partnership with National-Louis University (NLU).

MBA courses in Little Village will begin in September 2010. The program lasts 33 months and covers subjects related to becoming an effective manager and leader. All classes will be held at El Valor Carlos Cantu Children & Family Center. No GMAT required. Just the writing test for which El Valor/NLU will provide a workshop in preparation. The cohort starts together and finishes together. Those that are accepted to this program by NLU, will be eligible to receive a scholarship from NLU & El Valor equivalent to 20% off the tuition.

Organization: Northeastern Illinois University Center for Diversity and Intercultural Affairs

Northeastern Illinois University is seeking an energetic and creative individual to promote the vision of diversity and enhance the social, cultural, educational and leadership development of Latino students. The director will be responsible for the development of programs and conferences that include enrichment activities that are targeted for successful enrollment and adjustment of Latino students, while enriching their educational experience and contributing to their academic and personal success in all University areas. The director will participate in an integrated department goal-setting process with the Director of the African, African American Cultural Resource Center, Director of the Asian American/Global Cultural Resource Center and other campus units related to the development of cultural competencies and cultural programming. Initiate innovative cultural programs and activities that foster appreciation and understanding of diversity. This position reports to the Associate Vice President and Dean for Diversity and Intercultural Affairs and requires an individual who is a leader and team builder. Director, Maintenance - Bus
Salary Range: $110,000 - $120,000

Position Summary
Plans, directs, evaluates and schedules CTA's bus vehicle maintenance operations, programs, quality assurance and warranty administration of revenue vehicles, activities and personnel. Oversees maintenance of all Authority buses. Directs revenue vehicle cleaning programs and maintenance programs; ensures quality assurance and proper cleaning of vehicles for patron use.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Plans, coordinates and manages the activities of subordinate managers and staff to support and meet the Bus Maintenance Organization and Authority's goals and objectives.
Develops and administers maintenance schedules and programs to meet established objectives relative to the repair, inspection, testing and servicing of the Authority's buses and other automotive vehicles and related equipment.
Directs the inspection of bus shop and garage facilities to evaluate general appearance and equipment, reviews work methods and employee work performance.
Oversees the development, implementation and review of improved work procedures and methods within the bus shops and garages. Oversees the procurement of equipment and rolling stock.
Assumes full management responsibility for all departmental services and activities including maintenance control, quality assurance and warranty administration of revenue vehicles; recommends and administers policies and procedures.
Authorizes acquisition of supplies, tools and equipment required in the bus vehicle maintenance operation. Develops plans for heavy overhaul programs to ensure optimum reliability of the bus vehicle fleet and quality improvement programs to monitor and enhance workmanship and productivity. Plans, develops and recommends operating budgets for Bus Maintenance operations and participates in the planning and development of garage and shop facilities.
Oversees the preparation of engineering specifications and details for the maintenance of existing vehicles and the production of new vehicles.
Ensures compliance with applicable bus vehicle safety regulations for efficient and reliable operations. Ensures that safety standards are adhered to at work locations and ensures safe working conditions for employees.
Reviews investigation reports regarding chronic equipment failures, accident or other incidents and ensures that appropriate corrective actions are taken.
Analyzes utilization, equipment reliability, production efficiency and other measures necessary to prepare annual and long range forecasts of bus vehicle maintenance material and manpower needs for budgeting and other management purposes.
Oversees training, safety and labor relations activities of the Bus Maintenance Organization.
Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Business Management, Transportation Planning, Public Administration or a related field or a combination of education and extensive experience relating to this position.
Must have a minimum of ten (10) years of increasingly responsible experience in fleet maintenance operations, preferably in a transit environment, that includes seven (7) years of supervisory or management level maintenance experience, including managing a large size union staff.
Ability to direct and supervise the work of managerial, professional, technical and clerical staff responsible for a large and complex maintenance program.
Must have basic knowledge of the principles, policies and practices of vehicle maintenance programs.
Experience with mechanical engineering, diesel engine operation and preventative maintenance inspection and servicing.
Required to have a comprehensive knowledge of shop and garage operations, equipment, maintenance practices and programs relative to the maintenance of vehicles, preferably buses.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of warranty administration and quality assurance and experience with warranty administration, preferred.
Must be familiar with safety regulations pertaining to shops, garage activities and personnel.
Must possess the organization, management and analytical skills necessary to define, develop and evaluate department objectives, procedures and standards.
Must communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Must be proficient with basic office software applications.
Must have a valid driver's license.

Project Coordinator, Operations Support
Salary Range: $51,600 - $60,000

Position Summary
Coordinates a variety of projects in support of major CTA initiatives. Coordinates the efforts for the Chief Administrative Officer as they pertain to Chicago Transit Board matters. Ensures information to be presented to the CTA Board is received in a timely, uniform manner. Accountable for special projects as assigned by the President's Office and Chief Administrative Officer.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Coordinates the agenda development and materials for Chicago Transit Board meetings, works with staff and outside presenters to refine materials and prepare for public presentations. Acts as a liaison between departments to develop Board materials. Coordinates the response to inquiries and requests for information from the Board.
Collects, analyzes and evaluates data gathered from various sources and synthesizes data into meaningful reports and presentations for review by the Chief Administrative Officer and the President's Office.
Coordinates various projects and studies assigned by the President's Office and Chief Administrative Officer. Acts as a as a liaison with various departments to aide in project completion. Reports on progress of projects and studies and identifies any obstacles or causes for delay.
Ensures documents prepared and submitted to the Board follow established procedures. Ensures documentation is submitted to the Board and Executive Staff in a timely manner.
Plans monthly Board rehearsal meetings. Sends out meeting times and notices. Ensures participants have presentations in advance for review.
Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Public Administration or a course of study relating to this position, or an equivalent combination of training and experience relating to this position.
3+ years of relevant work related experience relating to this position required.
Juris doctorate and previous experience as an attorney preferred.
Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Excellent organization skills and a strong attention to detail.
Ability to assemble various pieces of information into a single format.
Prior experience dealing with an organization's Board and submitting Board information, preferred.
Ability to establish effective working relationships.
Must have superior interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential information and interactions.
